Advances in Open Heart Surgery
St.Vincent Heart Center heart surgeons do more heart surgeries (open heart and minimally invasive) than any other heart care system in Indiana. Our cardiothoracic surgeons and interventional cardiologists are nationally (and in many cases internationally) recognized for their expertise. These heart surgeons are pioneering safer methods for repairing the many parts of the heart and vital arteries. Our purpose is to restore heart function and quality of life and we do that with a Caring Spirit.
Our heart surgeons are actively involved in local and national clinical research efforts which benefits our patients immediately. Learn more about active clinical trials.
Advances in Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery
Since 2012, our Interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons have been on the leading edge of transformative heart surgery. That means smaller incision and less invasive surgical tools using robot-assisted surgical techniques (the daVinci® technology).Since 2012, these surgeons and have been replacing the heart’s mitral valve without heart surgery. To learn more, see
Dr. James Hermiller’s video
about this transformative procedure and how patients have quicker recovery and very strong outcomes.
