St.Vincent Transitional Year and Preliminary Medicine residencies are intensive, one-year programs that prepare graduates for subsequent training in a variety of medical and surgical specialties. Through a solid core of required rotations and a broad array of elective options, residents may tailor their education to meet individual career goals. Teaching is a priority at St.Vincent and we strive to train our residents to realize cost-effective quality care for their patients through evidence-based medicine.

St. Vincent provides over 30 full-time clinical faculty in general internal medicine and family medicine plus numerous volunteer faculty in all the specialties and subspecialties of medicine and surgery. Our teaching faculty value their relationship with the residency program and the rotating residents. The camaraderie and collegiality that exists among residents and faculty is second to none.

What Sets Us Apart
Our competitive program is highly respected for the broad range of academic resources, flexibility in scheduling and for the possibility to begin internship before July 1st. Transitional/Preliminary residents receive the same benefits, evaluations, and schedules as other categorical residents. Intra-program camaraderie is recognized as a strong point of all St.Vincent programs. We are also very fortunate to offer grant funding for international medicine electives via application process.
Research & Scholarly Activity
