Debbie Durst, Senior Director, IS Operations, Ascension Information Services, has been selected by the 500 Festival to represent the 2017 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon as one of 13 official Mini Ambassadors. By spreading the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, exercise and participation in the 500 Festival’s running and walking events, Mini Ambassadors will help keep participants informed, inspired and motivated during the months leading up to the race.
“The Mini-Marathon was the motivation I needed to become the person I am today,” said Debbie on the Mini-Marathon website. “I was hooked after I walked across the finish line in 2002. After walking it for six years, I was determined to run my seventh at the age of 51. And I haven't stopped.”
Debbie ran the 2016 Mini only four weeks after having her appendix removed, although her run time was slower than in years past. Then she ran the Geist Half Marathon two weeks later and got back on pace.
“I lost weight and have maintained excellent health,” she said. “I run year-round now but look forward to the training program, the Miler Series and, of course, the amazing Mini-Marathon. It’s great to see others embrace a healthy lifestyle and it only takes one step to start walking. Where can you go to celebrate with 35,000 of your closest friends and still get chills as you cross the line?”
