Family Medicine.

Director's Welcome

Dr. Heidi Harris

The St.Vincent Family Medicine Residency Program has a long tradition of training tremendous Family Physicians. Established in 1971, our program has a proud tradition of training Family Physicians to provide phenomenal care to their patients in a stimulating academic setting.

We are a mission focused program in the tradition of Ascension Health, the largest Catholic health system in the country. We train physicians to provide health care that is safe, effective, and available to all. Our values of service of the poor, reverence, integrity, wisdom, creativity, and dedication guide us in all that we do in our training program.

The Program provides outstanding depth in multiple areas of training while striking the necessary balance between personal and professional lives. From resident retreats to gatherings in faculty homes, we seek to provide a challenging academic program in a relaxed, family friendly environment.

Our residents enjoy a friendly and agreeable academic environment with colleagues in Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Transitional Year, and Pediatrics residencies. Our excellent relationship with our sister programs provides Family Medicine residents with a broad number of rotation experiences and lecture opportunities. Our residency’s goal is to tailor a program that meets each residents personal inclination for procedural proficiency or specialized experience in Obstetrics, Sports Medicine, Geriatrics, Global Health, Pediatrics and Underserved Care. We are home to a well established Geriatrics Fellowship and a Sports Medicine Fellowship as well as a Hospice/Palliative Care Fellowship.

We emphasize the development of leadership skills and teamwork to enable our resident physicians to practice top-notch quality medicine while enhancing the health of the community we serve. Our community involvement includes sports physicals in local schools, health fairs and the Indianapolis area Physician Outreach Network, which is dedicated to serving the most vulnerable in our community and the world.

We are fortunate to have a large patient base, which gives our residents the opportunity to train in all areas of Family Medicine. Our Family Medicine Center, which opened in October 2007, provides an exceptional facility in which to care for our patients and educate residents and students. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including electronic medical records and patient simulation models.

I invite you to explore why you should join the family of. St.Vincent Family Medicine in Indianapolis!
