MRI is one of the latest diagnostic tools used as an alternative to conventional X-rays, and is the superior scanning method for a variety of problems. MRI poses no risk to the patient, and produces remarkably clear images of body tissue using computers, radio waves and magnetic fields. A physician can clearly see the differences between healthy, benign and malignant tissues on images produced by MRIs. All portions of the brain, spinal cord and organs can be imaged without moving the patient, and bones do not interfere with the imaging.

The area’s only Open MRI is located in St.Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital's Ambulatory Services Center. Open MRI benefits patients who are claustrophobic or large. A friend or loved one can stay with the patient during the exam, which is particularly comforting to children. Our traditional MRI unit is located in the Radiology Department within the hospital.
