Description of Classes - Prenatal

We are excited that you are considering participating in our Prenatal Program. We have a variety of different classes available to you that we hope will meet your needs during the time you are waiting and planning for your new baby.

Four Class Series - This series is recommended for all first-time mothers and fathers. The topics covered are labor and delivery, medications, breathing, relaxation, baby care and parenting. We make every effort to include a tour of the Obstetrics Department. Please plan on bringing the person who will be serving as your coach, as well as two pillows for breathing and relaxation exercises. Remember to wear comfortable clothing.

One Class 'Mini' Series - This one-day, four-hour course is an ideal refresher course or an optimal choice for those who can't get away during the week. The topics covered are a brief overview of labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation, as well as a short discussion of medications. We make an effort to include a walk-through tour of the Obstetrics Department, which is dependent on the events occurring in the department at the time. Please plan on bringing the person who will be serving as your coach, as well as two pillows for breathing and relaxation exercises. Remember to wear comfortable clothing.

Description of Classes - Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding class is offered for mothers-to-be who have decided to nurse their infants and those who have not yet decided what method of infant feeding they will choose. This class takes all the guesswork out of breastfeeding by offering step-by-step instructions.

Description of Classes - Infant CPR

This course uses standards set forth by the American Heart Association in teaching basic CPR for infants up to one year of age. As a parent, you will probably be the first person to respond if your new baby begins to choke or stops breathing. This class will teach you the skills you need to be prepared for such an emergency.

Description of Classes - Sibling

Brothers and sisters are an important part of your growing family. This class is designed to be attended by expectant sibling(s) ages 2-9 and their parent(s). The class reinforces how they are special and answers questions they might have about the hospital and their role as a BIG brother or BIG sister.
