Head and neck cancers – which affect the voice box, throat, mouth and
lips, nose, sinuses and salivary glands – make up three to five percent
of all cancers in the U.S. In fact, each year 50,000-60,000 new head
and neck cancers are diagnosed.
Sometimes medication and other non-surgical treatments are
unavailable or unable to ease your symptoms. If your doctor recommends
surgery to treat your head or neck condition, da Vinci® surgery may be an option for you.
Our world-class board certified team of surgeons at St.Vincent work
together to detect head and neck cancer early, and, if necessary, are
using the da Vinci Surgical System to treat it.
For many years, surgeons have used traditional surgery to treat head
and neck conditions, which often resulted in significant pain, trauma,
and a long recovery process. The robotic-assisted da Vinci
surgery is a less invasive treatment option that allows surgeons to more
precisely target the anatomy without a large external incision.
At St.Vincent, our doctors are performing the following surgeries using the da Vinci Surgical System:
- Thyroidectomy – for Thyroid Cancer, Hyperthyroidism, or Goiter Removal
- Trans Oral Resection (TORS) – For Throat Cancer (i.e. tonsil cancer,
cancer of the larynx, cancer of the pharynx, and tongue cancer)
Our skilled staff ensures the highest quality care for patients with cancers of the head and neck.
