St.Vincent Health Hospitals Recognized as Top 100 Hospitals in Nation

INDIANAPOLIS – St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital and St.Vincent Carmel Hospital are being recognized for earning the 2009 Top 100 Hospitals designation by Thomson Reuters. Thomson Reuters performs the study annually to share new standards being set by the hospital industry, using expertise and innovative technology to provide intelligent information for businesses and professionals.

St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital earns the Top 100 recognition for the fourth time and the second consecutive year. The 770-bed acute care facility also received the Everest Award for the second year in a row for "exhibiting top current organization-wide performance as well as fastest organization-wide performance improvement." St.Vincent Carmel Hospital makes the Top 100 Hospital list for the first time in the medium-sized community hospitals category.

"Our medical staff and associates have made a commitment to provide the highest level of care for patients and families, and the Top 100 designation represents their hard work," said Kyle DeFur, president of St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. "It is an honor to continue to be recognized as a top performing hospital throughout our country."

The selection of the Top 100 Hospitals is determined by measuring statistical performance in five designated categories, including clinical process and outcomes, patient safety, patient perception of care, operational efficiency and financial stability.

"As the only Hamilton County-based health provider to receive this recognition, we will remain dedicated to addressing our patients’ unique healthcare needs by focusing on holistic care – mind, body and spirit," said Michael D. Chittenden, president of St.Vincent Carmel Hospital. "We are proud to receive this recognition, and to serve area residents and the community."
