Pastoral Care

Purpose

It is the goal and prayer of the St.Vincent Williamsport Hospital Pastoral Care Department to meet the spiritual concerns of our patients, their loved ones, and hospital associates as fully as possible.

Chapel

There is a Blessed Sacrament Chapel located in the Registration and Waiting area.  It is always open for personal prayer and reflection.  A Prayer Request Book is also in the chapel for anyone to share their concerns, knowing that other people will join in prayer for them.

Community Collaboration

The chaplain works with the Bi-County Ministerial Association in honoring the patient’s cultural, spiritual and religious belief and practices.  Upon receiving consent from the patient, his/her religious or spiritual minister/director is notified.  The Ministerial Association plans and carries out services and ministries throughout the community for persons with emergent needs or who are experiencing a crisis.  Community worship services are also planned throughout the year.

Pastoral Spiritual Care

Various spiritual practices are inculcated in the Norman routine and practice of the Pastoral Care Department.  Daily Reflections and Prayers are broadcast over the PA system.  Special services for prayer and spiritual practices are celebrated in the chapel such as National Day of Prayer, Ash Wednesday Service, and other special occasions.  Mass is celebrated in the chapel on the Feast Days of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and on other scheduled days. Upon request the chaplain provides Protestant communion, and Fr. Rasner ministers the Catholic Eucharist.
