Pastoral Care

Our Mission

As a faith-based hospital ministry, St.Vincent provides pastoral care to address the spiritual needs of patients and their families, respecting individual religious preferences and personal expressions of faith.

The members of the Pastoral Care Departments of St.Vincent Health strive to follow the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

The pastoral care staff endeavors to:

  • Witness in a ministry of presence, offering spiritual and emotional support to accompany others on their spiritual journey
  • Accept and promote the individual's freedom with respect to religious beliefs and practices
  • Promote and encourage the holistic practice of health care (mind, body, and spirit)
  • Affirm the natural process of grief and assist in this process

The Spirit of Caring at Work

Patients are welcome to invite their priest, minister or rabbi to visit at any time. With the permission of the patient or family, a patient's spiritual leader will be notified of the patient's admission to the hospital. A chaplain is available 24 hours a day for spiritual support and sacraments as needed or requested.

Locations for Pastoral Care

Every hospital facility within the St.Vincent Health system offers pastoral care. Services are offered at specific locations (including chapel location and hours or special programs such as grief recovery or annual remembrance services):
