Safe Grilling Tips, Food Safety and Favorite Summer Snack Options

Summer is a time for friends and family to gather outside for cook-outs, pitch-ins and picnics. Join our registered dietitian, Breanna Moore, to learn about safe grilling tips and how to avoid food-borne illnesses and food poisoning during your summer gatherings.

Those who attend this seminar will receive a complimentary Pathway to Wellness: Food for the Body, Mind and Spirit cookbook.

Tuesday, July 15 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Safe Sitter Class - CLASS FULL
*A $50 fee is required.

This class is designed for young adolescents, teens or siblings who want to learn the basic care and first-aid for being a responsible and confident caregiver. The curriculum addresses babysitting as a business; success on the job; child care essentials; safety for the sitter; injury management; preventing problem behaviors; behavioral management; care for a choking infant/child; preventing injuries; and infant and child CPR. Prior to course completion, students must demonstrate acceptable skills in the care of a choking infant and child, and pass a written exam proving mastery of key concepts.

Staying Safe Outdoors

Summer is here – and that means it is a good time to go outside and enjoy the weather! Learn summer tips on staying safe while having fun outside. This will include how to keep insects at a distance, preventing sunburns and how to promote water and bike safety for the entire family.

American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR Course
*A $25 fee is required.

The American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult and child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Skills are taught in a group environment. This course is geared for people who want to learn CPR, but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. It is ideal for students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life.

Keeping Your Teen Safe

In this seminar Kathy Molloy, social worker, St.Vincent Fishers Hospital and the Fishers Police Department will provide you with safety tips to keep your teenager safe. We will address the effects of alcohol on teens and discuss a variety of common drugs in which teens might be exposed. Learn the warning signs of drug and alcohol abuse, as well as depression. Educating yourself is a first step toward prevention.

Safeguard Your Health – What Women Need to Know
Susan Benson, MD, St.Vincent Medical Group – OB/GYN & Mandy Cook, esthetician, SKINnovations at St.Vincent Fishers Center for Women’s Health

Join OB/GYN, Dr. Susan Benson, and esthetician, Mandy Cook, as they co-present on information women need to know when it comes to their health and safety. The seminar will cover a variety of topics from safe medication and supplement use, to sexually transmitted diseases, to signs of depression, to prevention and risk reduction strategies for chronic diseases, to skin care health, nutrition and more. This is a seminar women of all ages won’t want to miss!

Medicine Safety in Your Home

Every year thousands of children are hospitalized, and even die, from taking medications not meant for them. Teens may steal them and share them with their friends; toddlers may think they are colorful candy. Learn from pharmacist, Kalpana Lebo, how to prevent this from happening and reduce the risk of your prescription medication getting into the wrong hands.

Join St.Vincent Fishers Hospital for a day of FREE health and safety activities and live entertainment. The day includes live rescue demonstrations from Fishers Fire Department, emergency response vehicle tours, car seat safety inspections, bicycle safety, self-defense and more!
