INDIANAPOLIS – St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital was recently selected by consumers for the 18th straight year as the No. 1 most preferred hospital in Indiana by the 2013 National Research Corporation (NRC) Consumer Choice Award survey.

The faith-based facility is the only hospital in Indiana and among the top 1 percent across the country to win the award all 18 years. In the Midwest, only six hospitals have won this award for 18 years; and nationwide, only 37 hospitals of nearly 3,200 mentioned by name have won this award for all 18 years.

"It is an honor and privilege to be recognized by those we have committed ourselves to serving since our inception in Indianapolis," said Kyle DeFur, president of St.Vincent. "We have full appreciation for the unique healthcare needs of each individual who trusts us with their health and wellbeing, and our intent is to remain dedicated to providing the highest level of quality care. To be preferred by your community is humbling, and we will continue to build on our services and enhance the experience for patients and families."

The award identifies hospitals of which healthcare consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in more than 300 markets throughout the United States.

According to NRC, winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company's Healthcare Market Guide Ticker study. Of the 3,200 hospitals named by consumers in the study, the winning facilities rank highest in their Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs), as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The Ticker study surveyed more than 270,000 consumers and the award is based on the hospital that possesses the best overall quality; best overall image and reputation; best doctors and best nurses.
